Enhancing Coordinated Action by Leveraging Team Member Synergies

Problem

Successful execution in business is controlled by several factors, three of the leading relationship dynamics being:
  • The ability to produce alignment and be in alignment
  • The ability to collaborate fully and discuss what’s difficult to say as much as what’s easy
  • The ability to balance the need to act on decisions and progress down new paths with the appropriate levels of path selection and rigor

In commercial operations success rarely comes from ‘me’, but rather from all of ‘us’. The Compatibility Analysis enables team members to understand how they contribute to the group’s alignment, collaboration and decision-making.

Unfortunately, few people are aware of their own approach to alignment, collaboration, and decision-making when working with others - the three critical attributes of successful coordination.

Approach

The web-based SP/Team™ tool comprises three elements:
  • The Personal Coordination Assessment (PCA) – provides an individual with an understanding of their current style and approach when working with others
  • The PCA Comparison (PCC) – identifies the compatibilities between a pair of individuals arising from the synergy of their styles
  • The Multi-Party Comparison (MPC) – an interactive utility that graphically maps and compares the working styles of all parties in the team. Used by team leaders and managers for team design and understanding

An individual’s responses to 60+ questions via a web-based form result in their Personal Coordination Assessment - a graphical display of personal characteristics. These results are accessible for that individual only. On request two individuals may ask that a pairing is done, which compares those two individuals on the three critical attributes generating a fully automated PCA Comparison - a graphical and textual analysis of the synergies and potential consequences.

As teams, departments, projects or recruiting applications are identified, the list of individuals and their roles are compiled and a Multi-Party Comparison is drawn. This comparison shows graphically the inter-relationships and can dynamically re-center each individual to see the “style landscape” from the others’ perspectives.

Utilizing SchellingPoint’s Active Convergence Engine™ (ACE), the specific points of like-mindedness around collaboration, alignment and decision-making are surfaced, providing the user with clarity at a detailed level to the teams concurrence and divergence of opinions as they form plans and take action.
